Writing Prompts 61

Spring is just around the corner. Here’s some prompts to help you welcome the new season.

  1. Write a story that takes place during a political coup. Bonus points if your story keeps politics in the background.
  2. An expedition is lost in a desert. (Bonus points if it’s a cold desert.) Internal conflict threatens to tear the group apart. What caused it?
  3. A piece of bad advice severely delays the main character’s plans. Did the advisor make an honest mistake, or was it deliberate sabotage? Is the advisor punished?
  4. Our hero seeks a magical artifact. In order to reach this artifact, he must overcome a series of trials constructed by the artifact’s guardians. Is the prize worth the effort? Is the prize at the end even the genuine article?
  5. An ascetic wants to live alone in the wilderness, away from civilization so she can focus on prayer (or whatever form her spiritual practices take). But people from the nearby village insist on inserting themselves into her life. How does the ascetic respond to this constant temptation to abandon her path?

If you use any of these prompts, please share your story or a link to your story in the comments below.
